CPF was founded in 1977 by parents who wanted to ensure that children would have the opportunity to become bilingual in the Canadian school system. Originally a small group of concerned parents who met in Ottawa, CPF has evolved into a proactive national network with 12 Branches and Offices and some 150 Chapters in communities nationwide.

The Ontario Branch office is located in Mississauga where we support parents, educators, stakeholders and Chapters across Ontario. We create and organize French language activities for youth in their regions, and work with all levels of government, educational partners and the public ensuring support for FSL education.

Chapters and Teams
CPF Ontario Chapters and Teams are the ground-level face and heart of our activities.
Our Chapters provide:
• local programming (e.g. organize CPF Ontario’s virtual programs: Franco Fun, Reading Circle, Vive La Parole), French workshops and game nights for families, socio-cultural performances) to enrich French as a Second Language (FSL) learning in schools;
• information and resources to parents wanting to support their children’s FSL journey; and
• advocacy for increased and improved FSL opportunities for students with school administration and at the school board level.
CPF Chapter volunteers are key to our success. Without their efforts and advocacy, FSL programs would never have been established and sustained across the country. They are the unsung heroes in the story of a bilingual Canada.
CPF Teams
If a CPF Chapter doesn’t exist in your community, you can join forces with one or more interested CPF members to work directly with the Ontario Branch and form a CPF Team. You and your co-volunteers can lead and coordinate a CPF-branded activity or event to benefit youth learning French in your community. Contact Rosemary Sutherland (rsutherland@on.cpf.ca) to learn more, including funds available for activities, and to discuss your interest in volunteering as part of a CPF Team.

Partners
